African-American Cemetery

The African American cemetery at Charles Towne Landing dates from the late nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. In 1974 research on the cemetery was published by John Combs from the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology. This paper is recognized as the first academic study of African American burial practices and cemeteries in the United States. The cemetery continues to be a research focus for the park.

Light is everything

A simple picture in a nice light . Without the sunlight creating those shadows, this photo would be plain and dead looking. It would be very boring and a picture without any "message". Light is everything in photography.

The word photography is derived from the Greek language: "phos" = light and "graphos" = writing. In translation that means: "writing with light".

Palms again.....

YES, we have still some palm trees left on the island! Somebody asked me in a comment to one of my last posts about palm trees, if there are still some palm trees left to photograph in Key West, because I captured so many of them already on my blog. I have to say it again: I just LOVE palm trees and no one of them look the same!
And new ones are growing too.... :-)

AND...... believe it or not, we have also pine trees on this island,
even a lot -
like this great beautiful example here, photographed in the last sunbeams of a hot and humid summer day.

Beauty is everywhere to find - you just have to open your eyes and don't search too far away.
